The SPOTCHEM™ EL functions on the basis of so-called E-plates. These reagent plates contain a one-way electrode that simultaneously measures potassium, sodium and chloride levels.
There are two depressions on each plate. The sample is pipetted in one and the reference solution in the other. The electrolyte concentration is then determined by means of potentiometric measurement.
Other electrolyte analysis systems for veterinary practises use ion-selective electrodes. These must be protected from drying out and therefore be repeatedly rinsed with special solutions. Such devices therefore steadily consume reagents which raises the overall costs per measurement - especially considering the fact that in most veterinary practices only a few measurements are carried out per week.
The SPOTCHEM™ EL uses one-way reagents. Reagents are only consumed when a measurement is actually being carried out. The device itself has no contact to the sample material.
The E-plates are available in packages of 25 units.
